PreK Torn Paper Flags

Here is a quick and simple way to review with prek glue procedures and to build up the muscles in their little hands.

Kindergarten Pre/Post Portraits

It's that time of the year when I show my kinders how much they have grown as artists. In September they created a portrait of themselves. Now that it's May, students create another portrait and are able to compare and contrast their two pieces of work. I love their reactions when they see their old pieces of work.

1st grade Puppet Shows

First grade students are having fun making puppets. Students then collaborate to write a play and then act it out. I was able to record a lot of fun plays but I haven't figured out how to upload the videos to this blog so here are some pictures!

3rd grade Robots

I was introducing light and shadow to third grade so that I can more fully dive into the concept next year as 4th graders. Students practiced making highlights and shadows on their robots.

Kindergarten Wildflowers

It's getting close to the end of the year which means we do more one day projects. Here's a project found on Pinterest. We used a game called Roll A Wildflower. Students used dice to roll certain patterns for the centers of their flowers, petals and other details. Students were also given the choice to invent their own patterns if they choose. Everyone was so proud of their creations!

1st grade Hermit Crabs

Students read the story A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle. We then created our own hermit crabs with lines and shapes. Lesson inspired from www.deepspacesparkle.com

5th grade Independent Projects

This will be the third year that fifth graders have an independent project for their last big assignment of the year. Students are given full choice on subject and medium they use. Students are an active participant through out the creative process by planning and designing their project, conferencing with me their proposal and sketch, executing their concept with their chosen materials and finally reflecting with a self-grade sheet while also sharing with the class. Students are allowed to work as a team and collaborate or be independent. It's probably my favorite project of the year as I watch them use skills that they have acquired through all their years of art.

4th grade Wayne Thiebaud Donuts

Students learned about the Pop artist Wayne Thiebaud and his philosophy on art. Students used oil pastels and focused on creating unity and variety in their work. Students are taking a "gallery walk" to reflect on their work and others. I wish I had taken more pictures!

Kindergarten Contour Line drawings

1st grade Glowing Monsters

Students read the book I Need My Monster by Amanda Knoll and then used chalk to creat a glow effect for their own monsters.

1st grade Rockets

2nd grade Contour Line Portraits

Students used transparencies over mirrors to draw the outline of their Dacia features. It was a lot of fun to see them study themselves in the mirrors!
