Classroom connection with Illustrative Maps

My 4th grade has been working in their classrooms on their state projects. In the art room they are creating their state maps with illustrations of important connections to that state. We talked about composition and it was fun to see the students bring their research to art class and really use their imaginations with this project.

Art Show

It's that time of year! Located in the basement of the Hudsonville City Hall, our annual art show will be on display from April 20th-April 28th. South's Artist Reception night is Wednesday the 22nd.

Personal Work

As an art teacher, especially with young kiddos at home, it can be difficult to carve out time to do some fun stuff just for yourself. Here are a few pieces that I was able to make this year. I love to play around with all sorts of mediums but I always seem to fall back on to illustrations! 😜

Professional Development @GVSU

I got to spend the day at Grand Valley with my fellow HPS art teachers improving our techniques and learning some new stuff. It was a wonderful experience!

School Board Invitations for Annual Art Show

It was my turn this year to prepare invitations for the school board for our departments annual art show. I loved this magnet idea and had students help make elephants with patterns. Get it, elephants have good memories... Hehe. This way the magnet could keep our art departments card on their fridge with all the important info and our website.

5th Grade Georgia O'Keeffe choice painting

5th grade students learned about American Painter Georgia O'Keeffe. To give some freedom to the students, they were given the choice to paint an up close poinsettia in her style or one of her more desert like scenes. This was a highly successful project and students showed great pride in their work. I was very proud of them as well!
